Frontal Eye Fields

چکیده
FEF is innervated by nuclei in the thalamus bordering the internal medullary lamina, mainly the lateral part of the mediodorsal nucleus and the medial part of the ventroanterior nucleus. The thalamic zones most heavily connected with FEF are themselves innervated by oculomotor afferents from the intermediate layer of the superior colliculus, the substantia nigra pars reticulate, and the dentate nucleus of the cerebellum.

Human frontal eye fields and visual search.
Recent physiological recording studies in monkeys have suggested that the frontal eye fields (FEFs) are involved in visual scene analysis even when eye movement commands are not required. We examined this proposed function of the human frontal eye fields during performance of visual search tasks in which difficulty was matched and eye movements were neither necessary nor required. Magnetic stim...
متن کاملCompensatory saccades made to remembered targets following orbital displacement by electrically stimulating the dorsomedial frontal cortex or frontal eye fields of primates.
If the eye-position signal during visually-evoked saccades is dependent on the dorsomedial frontal cortex (DMFC), one would expect that saccades generated to briefly presented visual targets would be disrupted after displacement of the eyes via electrical stimulation of this cortical area. Compared are compensatory saccades evoked to brief targets following stimulation of the DMFC and frontal e...
متن کاملAnatomical organization of the eye fields in the human and non-human primate frontal cortex.
There are several eye fields in the primate frontal cortex. The number and location of these oculomotor control zones remain controversial, especially in the human brain. In the monkey, the frontal eye field (FEF) is located in the rostral bank of the arcuate sulcus at approximately the level of the posterior end of the sulcus principalis, the supplementary eye field (SEF) is located on the dor...
متن کاملDifferent involvement of subregions within dorsal premotor and medial frontal cortex for pro- and antisaccades.
The antisaccade task has been widely used to investigate cognitive action control. While the general network for saccadic eye movements is well defined, the exact location of eye fields within the frontal cortex strongly varies between studies. It is unknown whether this inconsistency reflects spatial uncertainty or is the result of different involvement of subregions for specific aspects of ey...
متن کاملThe neural substrates of natural reading: a comparison of normal and nonword text using eyetracking and fMRI
Most previous studies investigating the neural correlates of reading have presented text using serial visual presentation (SVP), which may not fully reflect the underlying processes of natural reading. In the present study, eye movements and BOLD data were collected while subjects either read normal paragraphs naturally or moved their eyes through "paragraphs" of pseudo-text (pronounceable pseu...
متن کاملEye fields in the frontal lobes of primates.
Two eye fields have been identified in the frontal lobes of primates: one is situated dorsomedially within the frontal cortex and will be referred to as the eye field within the dorsomedial frontal cortex (DMFC); the other resides dorsolaterally within the frontal cortex and is commonly referred to as the frontal eye field (FEF). This review documents the similarities and differences between th...
